Prior to receiving a Mitchell Scholarship to study in Ireland, I served as a foreign affairs officer for the U.S. Department of State, working directly on U.S. foreign policy in Egypt, North Africa, and East Africa, and on global issues including security sector reform/capacity building, promotion of human rights and democratic governance, refugee issues, and counterterrorism.
